Coronary artery bypass grafting remains a palliative operation for the relief of angina pectoris refractory to drug therapy, and should be performed in those patients unsuitable for coronary angioplasty. A similar approach can be applied to reoperation in patients with recurrent angina bearing in mind the higher operation-related mortality and reduced prospects for satisfactory relief of symptoms in these patients.
