Abstract

AIM

To evaluate the efficacy of Polylactic Acid/Polygycolic Acid (PLA/PGA -Fisiograft®) with Open Flap Debridement (OFD) and OFD alone in the treatment of intrabony defects over a period of 9 months.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Twenty Nine systemically healthy subjects with total of 30 defects were included in the present, randomized, controlled and two arm parallel study. Tests were treated with OFD along with Fisiograft® and controls with OFD alone.

RESULTS

On intra-group comparison, clinical parameters at 6 and 9 months showed statistically significant results. On comparing between the two groups, the reduction in Defect Specific Bleeding Score (DSBS), Defect Specific Plaque Score (DSPS), Probing Depth (PD) and gain in Clinical Attachment Level (CAL) revealed no statistical significances other than Recession Depth (REC) which was more in controls. The mean radiographic parameters at 9 months post-operatively in both the groups were statistically significant. However, the inter-group comparison revealed no statistically significant values.

CONCLUSIONS

The overall results at the end study proved that the adjunctive use of Fisiograft® was not beneficial when compared with OFD alone.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Synthetic bone replacement graft materials are commonly used for periodontal regeneration. The present study was conducted by using PLA/PGA reveals no additional benefit over OFD alone in treatment of intrabony defects.

评估聚乳酸/聚乙醇酸(PLA/PGA -Fisiograft®)联合开放式翻瓣清创术(OFD)以及单纯OFD在治疗骨内缺损9个月期间的疗效。

材料与方法

本随机、对照、双臂平行研究纳入了29名全身健康的受试者,共30处缺损。试验组接受OFD联合Fisiograft®治疗,对照组仅接受OFD治疗。

结果

组内比较时,6个月和9个月时的临床参数显示出具有统计学意义的结果。两组之间比较,除了对照组的退缩深度(REC)更大外,缺损特异性出血评分(DSBS)、缺损特异性菌斑评分(DSPS)、探诊深度(PD)的降低以及临床附着水平(CAL)的增加均无统计学意义。两组术后9个月时的平均影像学参数具有统计学意义。然而,组间比较未显示出统计学上的显著差异。

结论

研究结束时的总体结果证明,与单纯OFD相比,联合使用Fisiograft®并无益处。

临床意义

合成骨替代移植材料常用于牙周再生。本研究使用PLA/PGA进行,结果显示在治疗骨内缺损方面,与单纯OFD相比并无额外益处。
