Abstract

OBJECTIVE

This study was carried out in order to isolate and identify the normal conjunctival fungal flora from Caspian miniature, Thoroughbred, Turkmen and Persian Arab breeds in Tehran, Iran.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of seventy-two adult healthy horses were studied. Ocular samples were collected from right and left eyes by using sterile cotton swabs; samples were cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar and incubated at 30°C for 7-10 days. Molds and yeasts were identified using macro and micro-morphological and physiological characteristics.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSION

Number of fungal colonies per eye varied between 0 and 123 colony forming units (CFUs). The most predominant fungal isolates were Aspergillus (19.9%), Rhizopus (15.9%) and Penicillium (15.1%). No significant differences were observed between types of eye fungal floras in different breeds. Caspian miniature horses had significantly the highest number of fungal isolates in compare with other breeds (P<0.001), however no significant difference was observed among other breeds under study. The fungal isolates were almost the same as with studies performed in other countries, although differences in species isolated could be related to geographic and climate difference.

目的

开展本研究以分离和鉴定伊朗德黑兰里海小型马、纯种马、土库曼马和波斯阿拉伯马的正常结膜真菌菌群。

材料与方法

共研究了72匹成年健康马。使用无菌棉拭子从左右眼采集眼部样本;样本接种于沙氏葡萄糖琼脂培养基上,于30°C培养7 - 10天。通过宏观和微观形态学及生理学特征鉴定霉菌和酵母菌。

结果与结论

每只眼的真菌菌落数在0至123个菌落形成单位(CFU)之间。最主要的真菌分离株为曲霉(19.9%)、根霉(15.9%)和青霉(15.1%)。不同品种的眼部真菌菌群类型之间未观察到显著差异。与其他品种相比,里海小型马的真菌分离株数量显著最高(P<0.001),然而在其他研究品种之间未观察到显著差异。尽管分离出的物种差异可能与地理和气候差异有关,但真菌分离株与其他国家进行的研究基本相同。
