Ketanserin induces larger falls of blood pressure in patients above the age of 60 years, both following acute intravenous and chronic oral administration. Although there is no clear explanation for these findings, it is possible that the age-related effects of ketanserin are due to antagonism of serotonin-induced vasoconstriction occurring in elderly patients with atheroma.
