Histochemical techniques routinely used for detection of the cationic proteins were applied to study the imprints taken from different zones of oral mucosa. Cationic proteins are obligatory components of corneous cells and nuclear superficial cells. The function of cationic proteins within and outside the corneating zones is discussed.
