[Immune response to meningococci].

The bacterium Neisseria meningitidis causes serious meningococcal epidemics with a high rate of mortality. The article reviews the immunological aspects with regard to colonization, invasion, and vaccination. Serogroup B polysaccharide gives low or no immunological response. This calls for a special vaccine to protect against the most prevalent meningococcal group in Norway.
