Lack of knowledge of the publishing process and lack of motivation are major reasons why many nurses do not attempt to write an article for publication. The purpose of this article is to demystify the writing and publishing process. The eight major steps entailed in preparing a manuscript are described. Emphasis is focused on numerous motivational strategies necessary to initiate and complete a writing project.
