Beta-endorphin (beta-EP) concentrations in hypophyseal portal blood are related to the menstrual cycle in primates. In women, changes in peripheral plasma beta-EP-concentrations were detected throughout the menstrual cycle. A similar circadian rhythm of beta-EP and ACTH was observed in males, suggesting a common mechanism of secretion at the pituitary level. We examined beta-EP, cortisol (F) and prolactin (PRL) levels in peripheral blood of regularly menstruating women. Samples were taken every 2 hours between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. on days 3 and 4 of the menstrual cycle and 6 and 7 days after the rise of the basal body temperature. A diurnal rhythm of beta-EP could be seen between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. in the luteal phase, but not in the follicular phase. An early morning rise of beta-EP was accompanied by increasing F-concentrations, suggesting a concomitant secretion of beta-EP and ACTH by the cells of the anterior pituitary. We therefore conclude, that ovarian steroids may influence beta-EP secretion at the pituitary level as well.
垂体门脉血中的β-内啡肽(β-EP)浓度与灵长类动物的月经周期有关。在女性中,整个月经周期外周血浆β-EP浓度均有变化。在男性中观察到β-EP和促肾上腺皮质激素(ACTH)有相似的昼夜节律,提示在垂体水平存在共同的分泌机制。我们检测了规律月经女性外周血中β-EP、皮质醇(F)和催乳素(PRL)的水平。在月经周期的第3天和第4天以及基础体温升高后的第6天和第7天,于下午6点至上午10点每2小时采集一次样本。在黄体期下午6点至上午10点可观察到β-EP的昼夜节律,但在卵泡期则未观察到。清晨β-EP升高伴随着F浓度增加,提示垂体前叶细胞同时分泌β-EP和ACTH。因此我们得出结论,卵巢类固醇也可能在垂体水平影响β-EP的分泌。
