Human liver specimens obtained by needle biopsy were embedded into glycolmethacrylate and enzyme histochemical investigations were carried out on semithin sections. By this method, we could demonstrate an activity of acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2) by azo-coupling as well as by metal precipitation methods, of alkaline phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.1) by metal precipitation method, and of ATPases (EC 3.6.1.3 and EC 3.6.1.4) in ITO's cells. Special aspects of the application of enzyme histochemical methods to resin-embedded liver tissue are explained.
