In the United Kingdom, the field of engineering in biology and medicine is so new that universities cannot agree on what to call it or even where to teach it. Undergraduate students in the United Kingdom can register for degrees in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, medical engineering, clinical engineering, medical physics, or even rehabilitation engineering; and these could be taught in specialist institutions, mechanical and electronic engineering departments, medical schools and hospitals, or even by distance learning.
