beta 2-microglobulin (beta 2-m) serum levels were significantly elevated in patients waiting for kidney transplantation. The levels decreased after successful transplantation, even when they were never as low as in a control group of healthy blood donors. A higher amount of serum (s-) beta 2-m was observed also in heart transplant recipients. A significant reincrease in s-beta 2-m occurred during rejection of renal allograft and during CMV and EBV infection. The levels of s-beta 2-m were higher in patients infected with CMV than in those infected with EBV.

等待肾移植的患者血清β2-微球蛋白（β2-m）水平显著升高。成功移植后该水平下降，即便其从未低至健康献血者对照组的水平。心脏移植受者中也观察到较高水平的血清（s-）β2-m。肾移植排斥反应期间以及巨细胞病毒（CMV）和EB病毒（EBV）感染期间，s-β2-m显著再次升高。感染CMV的患者s-β2-m水平高于感染EBV的患者。
