Abstract

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To assess the effect of presurgical nasoalveolar molding (PNAM) therapy in the management of patients with nonsyndromic unilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP).

MATERIAL AND METHOD

Ten patients with UCLP treated from 2009 to 2012. The initiation for PNAM treatment was 7 days and the average time of the treatment was 175 days. Measurements on patients and of casts were made, and statistical analysis was used to evaluate the changes in pre- and posttreatment measurements.

RESULTS

Subsequent to PNAM treatment, there was a statistically considerable rise in cleft nostril height and columellar width. There was reduction in both intraoral cleft width and columellar deviation, which was significant statistically.

CONCLUSION

PNAM treatment reduces alveolar cleft width. It enhances symmetry of the nose by changing columellar angulation, preserving alar width bilaterally, gaining height of the nostril on the affected side, and increasing columellar length.

目的

评估术前鼻牙槽塑形(PNAM)疗法在非综合征性单侧唇腭裂(UCLP)患者治疗中的效果。

材料与方法

选取2009年至2012年接受治疗的10例UCLP患者。PNAM治疗起始于7日龄,平均治疗时间为175天。对患者及模型进行测量,并采用统计分析评估治疗前后测量值的变化。

结果

PNAM治疗后,患侧鼻孔高度和鼻小柱宽度在统计学上有显著增加。口内裂隙宽度和鼻小柱偏斜度均减小,具有统计学意义。

结论

PNAM治疗可减小牙槽裂宽度。通过改变鼻小柱角度、双侧保留鼻翼宽度、增加患侧鼻孔高度和鼻小柱长度,可增强鼻的对称性。
