A cryptococcal infection was diagnosed in a patient with a history of immunoblastic non-Hodgkin's lymphoma by fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology of a pulmonary nodule. This case illustrates that granulomatous inflammation can be appreciated by FNA cytology and, when seen, should result in a search for the specific organism. This case also reemphasizes the value of FNA cytology in the management and follow-up of patients with malignancy or those being treated with chemotherapy.
