Damage to the rim of the aperture of the socket in a Charnley low friction arthroplasty may be associated with recurrent subluxation or persistent dislocation of the femoral component. Impingement of the neck of the prosthesis against the socket or cement is the cause of this complication. The damage to the socket may require a full revision operation.
