No differences in urinary catecholamine excretion could be demonstrated in resting conditions between patients with essential hypertension, stages I-III, and normotensive subjects. Under psycho-emotional stress, adrenalin and noradrenaline excretion rose significantly, while diastolic BP increased, and systolic BP went down in patients with first-stage essential hypertension, aged 18-30 years, in contrast to their normotensive counterparts of similar age, an evidence of increased sympatho-adrenal reactivity of these patients.
