A case of muscular weakness and atrophy with a facioscapulohumeral distribution is described in this report. The neurogenic origin, as judged from the results of laboratory studies, is discussed. The diagnosis and classification of the spinal muscular atrophy syndrome are also discussed. Facioscapulohumeral type spinal muscular atrophy is thought to constitute a distinct form of spinal muscular atrophy.
