Fonagy and Sharp read the commentaries with interest, respect, and deep gratitude. Interest, because, consistent with their mentalization-based approach, they discover most about themselves through the eyes of others. Respect, because all the commentators are major contributors to the field whose contributions deserve special issues in their own right. And finally, deep gratitude for the time and effort they took to review our contributions with thoughtfulness and insight. Fonagy and Sharp hope that the set of articles that they have brought together for this special section, in combination with the thoughtful commentaries previously discussed, will further stimulate constructive dialogue around the potential of mentalizing as a translational target. They are grateful to the editors of this journal for their assistance in laying the foundation for this continued dialogue.
