Abstract
The finding in cell block sections of a central core of collagen within tumour aggregates in 4 out of 12 cases of effusions due to malignant mesothelioma is statistically significant (P greater than .01) when compared with its incidence in 2 of 80 cases of effusion due to metastatic carcinoma. It is suggested that this observation may be of diagnostic value in the cytologic evaluation of effusions when malignant mesothelioma is suspected.

在12例恶性间皮瘤所致积液中，有4例在细胞块切片中发现肿瘤聚集体内存在胶原中心核，与80例转移癌所致积液中有2例出现该情况相比，具有统计学意义（P大于0.01）。提示该观察结果在怀疑为恶性间皮瘤的积液细胞学评估中可能具有诊断价值。
