Urinary incontinence is a common problem that can affect women of all ages. Urinary leakage twice or more each month is estimated to occur in 8.5 per cent of women aged 15 to 64, increasing to 11.6 per cent in women over 65 years and to be present in more than one half of all nursing home residents. Of these only one sufferer in four is receiving any treatment.
