In a period of 18 months the authors performed 359 scrotal ultrasonographies, of which 93 were done because of acute scrotum. The ultrasound-diagnosis failed only in two cases. The ultrasound proved to be a significant aid in the differential diagnostics, and the number of diagnostic explorations decreased especially in traumatic cases. Relying upon the favourable experiences, the authors recommend ultrasonography for more extensive use for the examination of acute scrotum.
