During and after military operations, the dental officer helps the medical officer with his knowledge and experience in treating maxillo-facial injuries. According to experience of past wars, head injuries are likely to amount to 10% of all casualties. If the number of casualties is very high, the dental officer will give all general medical assistance which he is qualified to give by his training. To enable him to fulfill all his tasks, the armed forces will give him special training in catastrophe medicine.
