Results of recently conducted clinical trials on the efficacy of treatment of hypertension in the elderly are reviewed. The findings of these clinical trials indicate that hypertension in the elderly (that is, diastolic blood pressure of 95 mmHg and above) must be treated so that the catastrophic clinical complications of hypertension in the elderly (that is, stroke) are prevented.
