In a rural general practitioner's office, 286 patients with all WHO stages of hypertension, were followed up. It was found that hypertensive drugs are more commonly employed in daily practice as basal treatment among the general population. This treatment complies with the requirements of clinical medicine with respect to frequency, patient age, duration of treatment, effectiveness and drug combinations.
