Hibernoma, a tumor of benign brown adipose tissue can present as a large mass that can mimic a sarcoma. Imaging characterization of large extremity tumors can be very helpful in assessment of these masses for treatment planning and follow-up. We report on a case where FDG-PET imaging was performed on a patient with a large thigh mss, suspected to be a sarcoma. The FDG-PET uptake was highly avid, suggesting a preliminary diagnosis of an intermediate to high grade tumor. However, brown fat is highly metabolically active, and therefore high levels of FDG uptake can be misleading for tumor characterization in treatment planning, as it was in this case.
冬眠瘤是一种良性棕色脂肪组织肿瘤，可表现为类似肉瘤的大肿块。对四肢大肿瘤进行影像学特征分析，对评估这些肿块以制定治疗计划和进行随访非常有帮助。我们报告一例病例，对一名大腿有大肿块、疑似肉瘤的患者进行了FDG-PET成像。FDG-PET摄取非常活跃，提示初步诊断为中高级别肿瘤。然而，棕色脂肪代谢活性很高，因此高水平的FDG摄取在制定治疗计划时可能会对肿瘤特征的判断产生误导，本病例就是如此。
