THE FOCUS of this book is empathy and sensitivity, dignity and respect, listening and responding, diversity and cultural competence, choice and priorities, and empowerment and advocacy. It is engaging and the references are contemporary. The case-study approach embeds the themes in practice. However, I sensed a feeling of professional despair in one study as the emotion evoked was palpable. The 'thoughts for your practice' section enables readers to reflect critically on their practice.
