The study performed in 54 elderly patients with first and second degree chronic heart failure (CHF) during hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) has revealed normalization of plasma renin activity, possibly, associated with improved renal blood flow. HBO also produced a drop in aldosterone concentration in patients with a high aldosterone level. However, the absence of changes in aldosterone concentration in the majority of ischemic patients with both first and second degree CHF during HBO gives evidence of its insignificant effect on adrenal mineralocorticoid activity.
