The ascent of the sedimentation of the blood is a normal reaction after operations. One must know the course after operations to value it for diagnosis. Therefore 392 patients were examined for sedimentation of the blood every second to tenth day after operation. Different conditions were analysed, for instance the type of operation and the age of patients and the height of sedimentation before operation. The results are discussed concerning their importance for the diagnosis of complications after operations.
