Reducing particulate air pollution could save more lives than previously reported, according to researchers from Ireland and the United States. Particulate air pollution has been associated with increased daily death rates but there is little direct evidence that diminished particulate air pollution would lead to a reduction in death rates. Concentrations of air pollution and directly standardised non-trauma, respiratory and cardiovascular death rates were compared for 72 months before and after the banning of coal sales in Dublin.
