The clinical and X-ray features of pleuropulmonary complications of surgical sepsis are described on the basis of examination and treatment of 66 patients. Metastatic destruction of the lungs in the form of multiple abscesses and bullae prevailed in acute sepsis, extensive confluent focal pneumonia in sepsis taking a violent course, and formation of abscesses in aspiration and atelectatic pneumonias. Pleural complications occurred in 23 patients. Organization of purposeful treatment reduced mortality to 18.5%. Among 53 patients who were discharged from the clinic 48 had residual bullo-sclerotic changes in the lungs.
