Large databases from multiple sources have been highly useful in studying and improving the quality of health care in the United States. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, the Society of Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative and its component regional groups such as the Vascular Study Group of New England, and the National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample are some of the sources of information that have been helpful to improve quality in vascular surgery.
