Based on their personal experience and literature data the authors describe etiology, clinical course, diagnostics and treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax. Primary connection of spontaneous pneumothorax with nonspecific diseases of the lungs followed by bullous emphysema disposed to generalization is stresses. Special attention is called to the importance of careful examination of patients with spontaneous pneumothorax under conditions of a thoracal department. Recommendations are given for the choice of the optimum method of treatment in surgical hospitals.
