The authors have performed 179 endovascular operations in 87 patients with complicated forms of cirrhosis of the liver using different successions of embolisation of the hepatic and splenic arteries, percutaneous transhepatic embolization of the gastric and esophageal veins, balloon occlusion of the vena cava inferior in combination with operations of the root vascular anastomoses (in 10 patients) and operations on the thoracic lymphatic duct. The complex and stepwise treatment of complications of cirrhosis by these methods resulted in an effective arrest of the ascites syndrome and lower portal pressure.
