Abstract

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of adjunctive photodynamic therapy (PDT) (using 810 nm diode laser and Indocyanine green as photosensitizer) in chronic periodontitis.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Patients with untreated chronic periodontitis were included. Treatment was done according to a split mouth design. All sites received periodontal treatment comprising scaling and root-planing (SRP). Test group were additionally treated with PDT. Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Probing Pocket Depth (PPD) and Relative Attachment Level (RAL) were evaluated at baseline, 1 month and 3 months.

RESULTS

Mean baseline values for PI, GI, PPD and RAL were not different in the test group and control group. Statistical significant difference in PPD and RAL, 3 months after treatment was seen in test group as compared to the control group.

CONCLUSIONS

In patients with chronic periodontitis, clinical outcomes of conventional SRP can be improved by adjunctive PDT.

目的

本研究旨在评估辅助光动力疗法(PDT)(使用810纳米二极管激光和吲哚菁绿作为光敏剂)对慢性牙周炎的疗效。

材料与方法

纳入未经治疗的慢性牙周炎患者。治疗采用分口设计。所有部位均接受包括龈下刮治和根面平整(SRP)在内的牙周治疗。试验组额外接受PDT治疗。在基线、1个月和3个月时评估菌斑指数(PI)、牙龈指数(GI)、探诊深度(PPD)和相对附着水平(RAL)。

结果

试验组和对照组PI、GI、PPD和RAL的平均基线值无差异。与对照组相比,试验组在治疗3个月后PPD和RAL有统计学显著差异。

结论

在慢性牙周炎患者中,辅助PDT可改善传统SRP的临床疗效。
