In experimental studies, it has been shown that the administration of either cryotherapy or cytostatic immunosuppressors caused a decrease in the infiltration of inflammatory cells in alkali-burned corneas. The activity of collagenase was observed to be inhibited in such corneas, and they healed faster than controls. Low temperature inhibits the activity of collagenase by removing the infiltration of inflammatory cells, and this therapy can be considered favorable in many diseases of the cornea.
