Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To determine the frequencies of various orbital malignancies amongst orbital lesions in patients presenting in a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan.

METHODS

A retrospective analysis of 666 orbital cases with an established histopathological diagnosis of malignant tumors treated in Mayo Hospital Lahore from 1996 to 2015 (20 years).

RESULTS

About 66% of the malignant tumors were primary, 25% secondary, 8% haematopoietic and 1% metastatic. Almost 50% of the cases were children. Retinoblastoma is the commonest tumor (43% overall and 87% among children). Squamous cell carcinoma is the second commonest (15.6% overall and 31% among adults). These are then followed by Adenoid cystic carcinoma of Lacrimal Gland (9%), Lymphoma/Leukaemia (8%) and Rhabdomyosarcoma (6.3%).

CONCLUSION

Frequencies of various orbital malignancies show geographical variation in both paediatric and adult population.

目的

确定在巴基斯坦一家三级护理医院就诊的患者眼眶病变中各种眼眶恶性肿瘤的发生率。

方法

对1996年至2015年(20年)在拉合尔梅奥医院接受治疗且已确立组织病理学诊断为恶性肿瘤的666例眼眶病例进行回顾性分析。

结果

约66%的恶性肿瘤为原发性,25%为继发性,8%为造血系统肿瘤,1%为转移性肿瘤。近50%的病例为儿童。视网膜母细胞瘤是最常见的肿瘤(总体占43%,儿童中占87%)。鳞状细胞癌是第二常见的肿瘤(总体占15.6%,成人中占31%)。其次是泪腺腺样囊性癌(9%)、淋巴瘤/白血病(8%)和横纹肌肉瘤(6.3%)。

结论

各种眼眶恶性肿瘤的发生率在儿童和成人人群中均呈现出地域差异。
