Substitution of a muscle of the leg for a suprahyoid muscle in rats.

Free muscle grafts were used in this investigation as an alternative approach to the treatment of injuries to muscles in the oral region. The grafted muscles regenerated fully. Histochemical and histological examination disclosed that the grafted muscles closely resembled those of normal control muscles. Evidence is presented to show the potential use of this technique in the treatment of injuries to oral muscles.
