Three types of heterometallic bismuth-tungsten oxide nanoclusters were successfully synthesized by the reactions of lacunary silicotungstates (trivacant [A-α-SiWO] and divacant [γ-SiWO]) and Bi in organic solvents. Lone pairs on Bi acted as structure-directing groups in these nanoclusters.
