Ideas about the aetiology and pathology of angina have changed considerably. The "dynamic" nature of coronary arteries is now well recognized. Treatment is beginning to respond to these developments. In particular, the old "medical" versus "surgical" argument is inappropriate--treatment should be tailored to the patient's individual need.
