The drugs used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis are divided into two classes: a "first aid" and a "back up" group. The synthetic antimalarial drugs examined belong to the second group. Table 1 assesses the pros and cons of such treatment and clearly indicates the prevalence of its advantages.
