[Prosthesis exchange with a cement-free ceramic prosthesis].

Representation of the causes of failure of cemented total hip prostheses concerning long-term-results due to wear problems and cement destruction. In order to avoid a further weakening of bony structures we recommend the use of the self-locking Autophor-prosthesis (Mittelmeier) in case of revision. At the same time additional bone-grafting for better ingrowth of the prosthesis often becomes necessary. By means of the casuistry of our clinic (1975-1983) with altogether 102 revision cases with self-locking Autophor-prostheses we represent the results. With the exception of 5 failure cases these results were very satisfactory.
