Incidental findings on gallbladder sonography.

Upper abdominal ultrasonography demonstrated important incidental findings in 4.4% of 480 patients referred specifically for a gallbladder examination. The sonographic findings contributed dramatically to the subsequent management of these patients. A policy of examining all of the upper abdominal organs is advocated in all patients referred for sonography of a single organ or system.
