CONTEXT
The ventriculus terminalis (VT) is a very small ependymal-lined residual lumen in the conus medullaris. It is normally present in all subjects during fetal development. VT in adults appears as an unusual pathology with an uncertain pathogenesis.
FINDINGS
In this paper, we described three case reports of symptomatic fifth ventricle cystic dilations. All of them were female and their mean age was 59 years. We treated them surgically and all three patients were improved based on clinical and imaging assessments.
CONCLUSION
Our cases suggested that surgical decompression was a safe and effective treatment in symptomatic patients and the neurosurgeons should be aware of such rare situations. A complete list of differential diagnosis about other cystic dilations of the conus medullaris should be emphasized to select the correct clinical approach.
背景
终室（VT）是脊髓圆锥内一个非常小的由室管膜衬里的残留管腔。在胎儿发育过程中，它在所有个体中通常都存在。成人的终室表现为一种发病机制不明的罕见病理情况。
研究结果
在本文中，我们描述了3例有症状的第五脑室囊性扩张的病例报告。所有患者均为女性，平均年龄59岁。我们对其进行了手术治疗，根据临床和影像学评估，所有3例患者均有改善。
结论
我们的病例表明，手术减压对有症状的患者是一种安全有效的治疗方法，神经外科医生应了解这种罕见情况。应强调关于脊髓圆锥其他囊性扩张的完整鉴别诊断清单，以选择正确的临床治疗方法。
