Mortality from pig-bel (enteritis necroticans) in children in Tari 1971 to 1976.

Pig-Bel makes a major contribution to mortality in Tari despite the absence of cyclical pig feasts in this area and despite the fact that most of the population eat meat at least once per week. Over one half of the deaths due to Pig-Bel occur after hospital treatment. The condition is endemic. There is no indication that its incidence is decreasing with increasing sophistication and socio-economic development.
