Abstract

PURPOSES

The normal limits of spleen size must be known in order for pathological changes to be noticed. The aim of this retrospective study is to determine the normal limits of spleen size in healthy children and to reveal their relation to sex, age, body height and weight.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Three hundred and ten children (150 girls and 160 boys) between 0-16 years of age in Eastern Anatolia Region who had normal spleen ultrasound appearances were included in this study. The greatest longitudinal distance of the spleen from the dome to the tip (splenic length) measured at the hilum in the coronal plane was obtained by ultrasonography.

RESULTS

There was no significant difference between the sexes in children. Also, no statistically significant differences were found between the two sexes in any age group for splenic length (-test, > 0.05). Therefore, all data were rearranged without being separated according to sex. The correlation analysis has shown a positive and significant correlation between splenic length and age, body height, and weight, with high correlation coefficients ( > 0.80). Splenic length showed the strongest correlation with body height.

CONCLUSION

In children clinically suspected of organomegaly, splenic length can be used to assess organ size. The presented data can be applied to routine ultrasonography examinations.

目的

为了能够发现病理变化,必须了解脾脏大小的正常范围。这项回顾性研究的目的是确定健康儿童脾脏大小的正常范围,并揭示其与性别、年龄、身高和体重的关系。

患者与方法

本研究纳入了东安纳托利亚地区310名0至16岁脾脏超声表现正常的儿童(150名女孩和160名男孩)。通过超声检查获得脾脏在冠状面脾门处从脾穹隆至脾尖的最大纵向距离(脾长)。

结果

儿童中两性之间无显著差异。此外,在任何年龄组中,两性之间的脾长均未发现统计学上的显著差异(t检验,P>0.05)。因此,所有数据未按性别分开而是重新进行了整理。相关性分析显示脾长与年龄、身高和体重之间存在显著正相关,相关系数较高(r>0.80)。脾长与身高的相关性最强。

结论

在临床上怀疑有器官肿大的儿童中,脾长可用于评估器官大小。所提供的数据可应用于常规超声检查。
