Upper trapezius trigger points are among the most common causes of neck pain. This study aimed to investigate the effects of integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique (INIT) on pain intensity and threshold.
MATERIALS & METHODS: Thirty two female participants with upper trapezius trigger points were recruited in this study. The participants were assigned to control (n = 16) or intervention (n = 16). The intervention group received INIT in one session, consisted of muscle energy technique, ischemic compression and strain-counter strain. Pain threshold and intensity were measured using Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) and Numerical Pain Scale (NPS). These measurements were performed at baseline, immediately after treatment and 24 h after treatment.
The results showed that pain intensity significantly decreased in the intervention group immediately after treatment (P = .01) and 24 h after treatment (P = .009) in comparison with the control group. There were no significant differences in pressure pain threshold between both groups.
It seems that Integrated Neuromuscular Inhibition Technique can reduce pain intensity in patients with upper trapezius trigger points.

本研究招募了32名患有上斜方肌触发点的女性参与者。参与者被分为对照组(n = 16)或干预组(n = 16)。干预组接受一次包含肌肉能量技术、缺血性按压和牵张-反牵张的INIT治疗。使用压力痛阈(PPT)和数字疼痛量表(NPS)测量疼痛阈值和强度。这些测量在基线、治疗后即刻和治疗后24小时进行。
结果显示,与对照组相比,干预组在治疗后即刻(P = .01)和治疗后24小时(P = .009)疼痛强度显著降低。两组之间的压力痛阈没有显著差异。
综合神经肌肉抑制技术似乎可以降低患有上斜方肌触发点患者的疼痛强度。
