The author describes a case of functional hypoparathyroidism with hypocalcemia that developed in a patient after ablation of a parathyroid adenoma. The patient's clinical presentation was characterized by a severe anxiety state. The literature on the neuropsychiatric manifestations of hypoparathyroidism indicates that anxiety states are not uncommon in this condition and suggests that hypoparathyroidism should be considered in the differential diagnosis of organic anxiety syndrome.
