In the 18th century about 40 medical men of non-Russian descent graduated in Halle temporarily or permanently entered the Tsarist services. Their activities are to be proved in nearly all fields of medicine. They occupied positions as court-physicians and military surgeons, worked in hospitals or as free practitioners. Some of them occupied important positions in research and education at the Academy of Petersburg and the University of Moscow.
