The technique used for enteral nutrition has recently been improved by the development of certain new procedures: percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, a small-caliber catheter, use of a single container for a 24 hour period, ambulatory enteral nutrition in the hospital, and a wide range in the preparation and composition of nutritive mixtures. This paper reviews the different techniques used and evaluates the cost of enteral nutrition in the hospital.
