The aim of this study was to determine the effects of traditional Thai self-massage combined with home stretching exercises (TSMSE) on pain, back flexibility and disability in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain (NSLBP).
Twenty-two patients from 18 to 60 years old were randomly allocated to receive 30-min sessions of TSMSE or 12 sessions of self-care education (SCE) over a period of 4 weeks. The pain intensity using a visual analog scale (VAS), back flexibility using a sit-and-reach test, and disability using the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability questionnaire, were measured before and after the treatment period.
The results indicated that the TSMSE group showed significant improvements in all of the parameters after the 4-week treatment period (p < 0.05). However, the SCE group only showed significant improvement in the pain intensity (p < 0.05). Moreover, the TSMSE group demonstrated a greater improvement in back flexibility than the SCE group at the end of the treatment period (p < 0.05).
These results suggest that the TSMSE treatment was an effective intervention for decreasing pain and disability and increasing back flexibility among the NSLBP patients.
本研究旨在探讨泰式自我按摩结合家庭伸展运动(TSMSE)对慢性非特异性下腰痛(NSLBP)患者疼痛、腰背柔韧性和功能障碍的影响。
将 22 名年龄在 18 至 60 岁之间的患者随机分为 TSMSE 组(30 分钟疗程)和自我护理教育组(SCE 组,12 次疗程),每组各 11 人,疗程均为 4 周。在治疗前后分别使用视觉模拟评分(VAS)评估疼痛强度,坐立前伸测试评估腰背柔韧性,Oswestry 下腰痛残疾问卷评估功能障碍。
4 周治疗后,TSMSE 组所有参数均有显著改善(p < 0.05),而 SCE 组仅疼痛强度有显著改善(p < 0.05)。此外,治疗结束时 TSMSE 组腰背柔韧性的改善明显优于 SCE 组(p < 0.05)。
TSMSE 治疗是一种有效的干预措施,可减轻 NSLBP 患者的疼痛和功能障碍,提高腰背柔韧性。
