Emergency department (ED) personnel frequently encounter incidents related to crime, violence, and suspicious injuries. The aim of this descriptive study was to determine the knowledge levels of ED healthcare personnel in their handling of frequently encountered forensic cases.
A cross-sectional descriptive study composed of ED healthcare personnel at all state, education and research, and university hospitals with EDs, located in Ankara, Turkey, was completed. Participants at the 15 hospitals in question were interviewed via a questionnaire developed by the researchers.
Three hundred fifty healthcare personnel who worked agreed to participate in the study. The results show that ED healthcare personnel have less knowledge than expected of the right way to handle frequently encountered forensic cases. Very few of the healthcare professionals who participated in the study had received any training or education in the field of forensic nursing. Among participants, postgraduates, health professionals educated in forensic nursing, and healthcare staff who used additional resources to understand forensic cases, and those who had evaluated cases that presented to the ED as forensic cases, had significantly higher levels of knowledge.
This study supports the need for professional development in forensic nursing, such as in-service training, and curriculum development for a certificate in forensic nursing to enhance the practical training of healthcare professionals who work in EDs.
急诊科工作人员经常遇到与犯罪、暴力和可疑伤害相关的事件。这项描述性研究的目的是确定急诊科医护人员处理常见法医案件的知识水平。
完成了一项横断面描述性研究，研究对象为土耳其安卡拉所有设有急诊科的州立、教育与研究型以及大学医院的急诊科医护人员。通过研究人员编制的问卷对上述15家医院的参与者进行访谈。
350名在职医护人员同意参与该研究。结果显示，急诊科医护人员对处理常见法医案件的正确方法的了解程度低于预期。参与研究的医护专业人员中，很少有人接受过法医护理领域的任何培训或教育。在参与者中，研究生、接受过法医护理教育的卫生专业人员、利用额外资源了解法医案件的医护人员以及曾将急诊科出现的案件评估为法医案件的人员，知识水平显著更高。
本研究支持开展法医护理专业发展活动的必要性，如在职培训以及开发法医护理证书课程，以加强急诊科医护人员的实践培训。
